WHERE IS DR. IMARI ABUBAKARI OBADELE Is Legendary a Founder of RNA
& N’COBRA M.I.A. By H. Khalif Khalifah MARCH 17, 2009
SOUTHAMPTON COUNTY, VIRGINIA – M. I. A. may be a charitable
expression: it means ‘missing in action.” Dr. Imari A. Obadele, one
of the Founders of The Republic of New Afrika, as well as N’COBRA
(the National Coalition of Blacks for Reparations in America), have
not been heard from since the N’COBRA Reparations Convention in
2007. Reportedly, he participated in the annual Membership meeting
of the Coalition, in June, that he called into being – in 1987. But
even at that meeting he was “clearly not the Dr. Obadele of old, or
during the entire convention.” Stated a participant who was at the
meeting. The above was a public gathering of the Coalition to plan
and develop strategies, while listening to new ideals, to advance
the cause of Black people to be paid due Reparations for “past
slavery rendered,” as well as the devastation that the entire
sojourn has heaped on the good and welfare of Black people – down
to this present day! OBADELE ALWAYS MORE COGENT AND PRECISE Even in
his Eldership, the mind of Dr. Obadele was clearly the most cogent
and precise in analyzing the Demand, as well as stratagems that
effectively made the word Reparations a household word worldwide.
Most all of the work that made it possible grew out of a brain
storm, or ideal of Dr. Obadele. “I wanted the leave to be right. It
would be, I though, if I never forget the brothers. If I work
ceaselessly to free our prisoners-of-war and help win that freedom,
“ Dr. Obadele states in a book that is essentially, his auto –
biography, “FREE THE LAND.” The quote is a reprint of same that is
in Khalifah’s book, ‘A Brief History of N’COBRA and the Reparations
Movement.’ “…if I never forsake our cause and help free the land.”

directly from the book “Free The Land, by Imari Abubakari Obadele.
FOUNDING OF N’COBRA FROM THAT MINDSET The founding of N’COBRA was
called from the above mindset and commitment. Those who have ever
been in the presence of Dr. Obadele, or read and understood any of
his some 25 or 30 books, know that a commitment from this Great
Man, who has been called one of “the 5 greatest Black minds of the
20th century,” when a commitment was made to do something, he was
never stopped. He got the job done, one way or the other. It is
well known that I am an unabashedly admiral and student of the ways
and means Dr. Obadele deployed his words acts and deeds to achieve
a desired result. It goes something like what my father told me:
“there is a way to achieve anything that is Right. If you can’t
achieve it one way, you go another way.” But you never give up. It
especially played out in my chosen field of work as
writer/publisher/printer and, also would-be-liberator of Afrikan
people. When I propose to do something that is beneficial to Black
people, if I get a little help, then it will take longer to get the
job done and it may be done of a smaller scale. With lots of help
it will be done sooner and in greater abundance and on a larger
scale. THE FOUNDING OF N’COBRA THE DEPOLYMENT OF THE WORD
REPARATION Dr. Obadele is credited with calling the folk into
formation that formed N’COBRA. But he was never one of the leaders
of the Coalition. If he had ever led N’COBRA, as it was organized
doing its glory days in the 1990’s, Black people may have already
obtained, at the least a “down payment on the Reparations due,”
which was one of this storied strategies. Another was “Reparations
Awareness Day” [February 25] and the “Economic Development
Commission.” And many, many more of the best known ways that
Reparations came to be known so well, by so many people. For those
who would doubt the assertion that Black people may have already
been paid, and the “healing process begun,” need only look at what
Dr Obadele achieved as a multi term President of the Republic of
New Afrika. Even in the face of the frontal attack on the RNA
headquarter in 1971, harassment of all descriptions by U.S. police
agencies, confinement to Philadelphia after serving 5 years in
prison for the battle – though he was not present at the battle in
1971 – he still managed the committed active, and inactive
membership of RNA to get some profound results. Reportedly, it was
also Dr. Obadele that called The BLA [Black Liberation Army] into
formation. It was led by Freed, exiled Assata Shakur. A LIST OF HIS
BOOK WILL BE ON THIS NETWORK We could go on for several hundred
pages about Dr. Obadele, but we will hold our pen here after a
listing of several of the books that was written by Dr. Obadele:
WAR IN AMERICA; FOUNDATION FOR A BLACK NATION, FREE THE LAND,
REPARATIONS, YES (a rare book being auctioned on this site); A
BRIEF HISTORY OF BLACK STRUGGLE IN AMERICA [another rare book being
auctioned to build the structure to build the Reparations
Warchest]. This is only a few of his books. If the reader has
others, please let us know. I intend to continue to report on the
work of Dr. Obadele. In fact, one of the main reasons for the
REPARATIONS WARCHEST is to secure funds that will be used to help
committed Black individuals and organization for the Noble Cause to
Free Black People. Dr. Imari Abubakari Obadele is a Past Master in
our present day. LET US KNOW YOUR FEELINGS ABOUT WHAT YOU READ. BUT
THERE WILL BE NO DEBATES – THERE ARE SEVERAL MILLION FORUMS TO
DEBATE ANY PARTICULAR ISSUE. THE BUILDING OF A REPARATIONS WAR
CHEST IS NOT ONE OF THOSE.
